About the Montessori Advantage

The Montessori school education is based on the principle that a child learns best when the social environment supports his or her own unique development. Montessori is consciously designed to recognize and address different learning styles. It was for this purpose that Dr. Maria Montessori created a curriculum and learning materials that provide a wealth of experiences contributing to the growth of each individual learner. Cultural and geography studies also foster a global perspective to prepare students for the increasingly interconnected world.

A Montessori classroom is multi-aged. This allows the child to work in an atmosphere of cooperative learning, peer teaching, and leadership development, along with social and emotional growth. Respect for one’s self, for others, and for the environment, are the foundation of classroom rules.

Our goal is to develop students who really understand their schoolwork. Learning is not focused on drills or rote memorization. Students learn through hands-on experience, investigation, and research. They become actively engaged in their studies, rather than passively waiting to be spoon-fed. Making mistakes are not what Montessori children afraid of because they are encouraged to try again and be resilient through self-correcting materials. We view mistakes as natural steps in the learning process.
